Palmetto Reed Project
Inspired by bassoonist and co-host of the Double Reed Dish Podcast Dr. Jacqueline Wilson (Washington State University, www.wilsonbassoon.com), the Palmetto Reed Project aims to provide high quality bassoon reeds to any middle school or high school student for whom purchasing reeds would present a financial barrier to starting or continuing to play the bassoon.
Instrumental Music teachers in South Carolina may request 2 reeds per semester for no cost. There is no limit on the number of students you may request reeds for, and each reed order is accompanied by a handout that teaches the student(s) how to care for their reeds.
Some notes for directors:
The Palmetto Reed Project is for students for whom the expense of a single bassoon reed might be cost-prohibitive. Please submit only need-based requests. These are not just “free reeds.” Students who can afford to buy their own reeds and band programs with substantial budgets should order from my online store.
Because I sell reeds online as part of my business, if might take me some time to process your Palmetto Reed Project request. Please be patient.
Donate to the Palmetto Reed Project
Please consider making a donation to the Palmetto Reed Project to help offset the cost of reed cane and supplies, and shipping costs. All donations received for Palmetto Reed Project will be used to bring reeds to bassoon students in need.
